The Birthing Story

To tell a little about what happened that infamous night I'll start by saying that I could have never guessed that our birthing story would have turned out like it did.

We arrived at Lutheran hospital on Wednesday night around 7pm, just in time to catch American Idol at 8pm. Joel and I barely slept that night, me with a huge belly and 2 giant monitors strapped to me that needed to be adjusted every time I moved positions. Poor Joel had to sleep on the worst recliner ever made (it was probably made in 1989). Potocin started that morning around 8am; then came the epidural around 9:30am (which by the way was the best thing ever invented!) I at no time during my pregnancy felt a big contraction. Indeed I was having them; but was blessed to feel no pain during the 8 hours of labor. 11am - water was broke. All day I only dilated to 3cm. Around 7:50pm that night Joel and I and the doc decided to go the c-section route. We could have waited until late into the night to see if I progressed, but the doc didn't think she was going to cooperate by coming naturally. We just trusted the doctors' opinion and decided to meet her via c-section. From there, everything went VERY FAST. Joel put his scrubs on, and we were off to the operating room. She was born at 8:45pm, less than an hour after we decided to go this route. Joel held my hand the whole time and we could have never imagined meeting our daughter so quickly. Joel was whisked off with Nola to the nursery and me to recovery. After a few hours we were all reunited in our room. We were both blown away by the past hours of activity; we went from being a happily married couple to happily married parents. It was AMAZING! (and best of all - I felt no pain!) Until recovery of course - I walked like an old lady for about a week, and relied on Joel for the simplest of tasks. I couldn't have a more loving and caring husband - he was ideal through the whole experience - Pregnancy, Birth, and Recovery.
